Introduction to a Future Best-Selling Author

Hello, everyone, I am Erika and I've finally gotten used to blogging since taking Myth & Folklore last semester.  I am an English Writing major who has been at OU forever (I am ancient compared to some of you). I only have 2 semesters left after this one (Spring '18)! I am getting a minor in anthropology, the combination of the two makes this class the perfect fit. The best class that I took last semester was called Literature of Empire and it focused on issues such as colonialism and how its represented in different genres of fiction like steampunk and sci-fi, we even got to read the first two volumes of The League of Extraordinary Gentleman graphic novels. If I'm not at school I am probably working, I spend a lot of time toiling away at Lowe's. I work in the Hardware department and my 5 year anniversary with the company is in March. I am always surrounded by animals. Where I used to live there were 5 people, 4 cats, 3 dogs, and a snake! Now I live alone but I...

Storybook Favorites

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Missing River The title of this project is what caught my eye. I really like the idea of taking existing story universes and characters and combining them to make something new and unique. I think using Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Watson as a narrator is genius. Taking something as fundamentally American as the Wild West and tying it in with stories from India at first seemed strange but after reading a bit I realized that it actually worked really well. Its super creative and unique and I don't think I would've ever thought to set an Indian Epic ...

My Favorite Places

Hartshorne, OK  is a tiny town in southeastern Oklahoma just southeast of McAlester - my hometown. Hartshorne has two traffic lights and a Sonic Drive-In, and that is about it. My family homesteaded at a place called Arch just outside of Hartshorne proper during the land runs. I lived in Hartshorne until I was almost 10 then we moved to Michigan. While we lived in Michigan I still spent every summer in Hartshorne with my grandparents so I never really felt at home anywhere else. Hartshorne has its problems, as most small towns do. But it is home to me and I love this image of the dam at Hartshorne Lake at night. (Photo by  Floyd Morgan Jr. ) The Brewhouse Norman, OK It might sound silly to say that one of my favorite places is a bar. But oh well, I have been a "regular" at The Brewhouse for years and have made so many meaningful connections with people that it would be silly for me not to say that Brew is one of my favorite places. The reason that I love Brew so m...
