I really enjoyed keeping a "happiness jar." Although I used the whiteboard on my fridge instead of stuffing pieces of paper into a jar. I might actually attempt to keep an actual happiness jar for a year. I liked the exercise because it reminded me to find happy moments even on bad days.
- Day 1: Romeo & O'Malley getting along (well sorta)
- I adopted a rare male calico cat for my mom last week and fostered him until she could come get him - she lives in Kentucky. The cat's name is Romeo and he is super sweet but my two cats weren't thrilled with sharing me or their house with a new cat. Finally, a few days into him being here, which just happened to be the day I started writing down happy moments, Romeo (my mom's cat) and O'Malley (my cat) sniffed each other's noses without hissing. It's the little things.
- Day 2: Dinner with an old friend
- I had some great German food with an old friend and it made me pretty happy.
- Day 3: Reaction to my lyric essay in peer workshop
- I wrote about my lyric essay in my famous last words post last week and stated that I would get to workshop my piece later in the week. When workshop came around everyone loved my piece. As a writer, it is terrifying to share your work, especially pieces like my lyric essay. Every time I put words on paper it is like sending a little piece of me pout into the world to be torn to shreds. It is nice when your work garners a positive reaction, it lets you breathe a little easier knowing that at least that part of you is safe.
- Day 4: Presentation
- For my anthropology class called Dogs: From Feral to Friend we had to do a semester-long research project. Mine was to 3D print a working prosthetic leg for my 3-legged-dog, Earl. I had to give a presentation last week on the progress or completion of my project and it went really well. Plus, Earl got to come to class and be front and center, so that was great as well.
- Day 5: Norman Music Fest
- I went to high school here so going to Norman Music Fest has been a tradition in my friend group for almost 10 years now. The last couple of years I have missed it entirely or just got to go for a few hours because I usually work weekends and it is hard to get weekends in the spring off at Lowe's because it is our busy season. But this year my one weekend off a month happened to be the same weekend as NMF. I got to go and enjoy it with my friends and reminisce about the times we used to smuggle in Malibu coconut rum mixed with Mt. Dew in our CamelBaks. Ahh, good times.
- Day 6: Spending time with my mom
- Like I said on day 1, my mom lives in Kentucky. She came down this weekend to pick up the cat I had adopted for her. We spent all day together on Saturday, she even went to Norman Music Fest with me.
- Day 7: White chocolate covered pretzels
- Sounds silly but they were delicious. Sometimes the smallest things can garner the happiest reaction.
