Week 13 Reading B: Sita's Ramayana Comic Book

  • Part B - pages 37 - 71
    • the dying Jatayu, king of the birds, told Lakshmana and Rama where Sita had been taken
    • Rama and Lakshmana followed the trail of jewels Sita had dropped
    • Rama sent Hanuman to Sita
      • Hanuman tells Sita how Rama came to know the monkeys or Vanara and their chief
      • Hanuman approached the brothers because they dressed like ascetics but they were carrying the weapons of warriors
      • Rama told Hanuman of his missing wife and Hanuman took the brothers to his chief, Sugriva
      • Sugriva tells Rama that he has seen Sita and that Ravana has taken her
      • Sugriva also tells Rama that he will need an army to wage war on Lanka to get Sita back
      • Rama is upset because he is an exiled prince and has no way to raise an army
      • Sugriva offers Rama a deal
        • Sugriva is also an exiled prince whose brother stole his wife and exiled him from the kingdom of the Vanara
        • Sugriva said that if Rama helped him defeat his brother and reclaim his wife he would lead the Vanara army to fight Ravana
        • Rama agreed
        • Sugriva challenged his brother Valin to combat
          • while they fought Rama hid nearby
          • neither could best the other so Rama shoots Valin in the back with his arrows
          • Valin makes Sugriva promise to take care of his wife and son when he dies, Sugriva agrees
          • Sugriva/Valin's wife Tara is upset that her second husband has died and that she has been made a widow and bride in the same day
          • Sita comments that she feels guilty for Tara's pain while Hanuman is telling her this story
          • After Sugriva becomes king of the Vanara he ordered Hanuman to leap over the sea to Lanka and search for Sita
          • Rama gives Hanuman his signet ring to give Sita if he found her in Lanka
          • Hanuman leaps across the sea and comes to Lanka
      • Hanuman ends his story and gives Rama's ring to Sita
        • Sita gives Hanuman her jeweled hairpin to give to Rama 
        • Sita tells Hanuman to tell Rama to come to Lanka quickly
  • Storytelling Notes: This isn't all of this reading but I stopped my notes here because I want to write this week's storytelling about the fight between Sugriva and Valin. I want to change it up a bit because I don't like the idea of the hero of this story (Rama) shooting someone in the back. Valin even accuses Sugriva and Rama of deceit, and he isn't wrong. Also, Sita voices her regret that it was partially because of her that Tara is a widow and her son lost his father. I want to retell this part of the story without Rama's deceit.

Introduction to a Future Best-Selling Author

Hello, everyone, I am Erika and I've finally gotten used to blogging since taking Myth & Folklore last semester.  I am an English Writing major who has been at OU forever (I am ancient compared to some of you). I only have 2 semesters left after this one (Spring '18)! I am getting a minor in anthropology, the combination of the two makes this class the perfect fit. The best class that I took last semester was called Literature of Empire and it focused on issues such as colonialism and how its represented in different genres of fiction like steampunk and sci-fi, we even got to read the first two volumes of The League of Extraordinary Gentleman graphic novels. If I'm not at school I am probably working, I spend a lot of time toiling away at Lowe's. I work in the Hardware department and my 5 year anniversary with the company is in March. Week 13 Storytelling: Kumby's Plan

(Kumbhakarna from Smite Game Official Wiki ) As he slumbered the pounding of drums and the ringing of trumpets rolled through his unconscious mind.  Though he was cursed to slumber for half of the year, Kumby still absorbed the happenings around him. Kumby slumbered on but the pounding of drums grew steadily louder. He rolled over, covering his ears with his massive arms. However, his giant arms were not enough to drown out the sounds. "Kumby!
